This piece of writing was sent to me from Thomas O’Rourke:

Any body can send me creative writing to have posted… just send it to ross.gendels@rossgendels.com in the subject put “Creative Writing”

Here is Thomas O’Rourke’s piece:

A Musically Induced Vision

My favorite dream I have ever had has stayed with me like a real
memory.  Kottke.com is an independently run blog which posts numerous
“items of interest” which its owner finds on the internet…videos,
articles, and the like.  Being my favorite website, I have set it as
my homepage.  Logging onto my computer one afternoon, I read an
article posted on kottke that discussed an interesting phenomenon
involving a “The Mars Volta” album, “Frances the Mute”.  Supposedly,
when one listens to this album as they are falling asleep, it is the
cause of extremely vivid and unusual dreams.  Naturally, I was
intrigued by the possibility of a naturally “psychedelic” experience,
so i downloaded the album on the spot and uploaded it to my ipod.
I inserted the earbuds as I got into bed, and started on the first
song.  An eerie, dark sort of clashing sound resonated through the
headphones, almost as if some king of disabled single engine plane was
whirling around my head.  A series of soft, yet harshly erratic beeps
came on, creating a techno feeling song that sounded bitter to my
ears.  Amazingly, given the far from peaceful noises I was immersed
in, i drifted off to sleep.
What came next will sound like a description of a Grateful Dead t
shirt, but in my minds eye, it is as clear as anything.  I awoke in a
dark corridor lined with the thick trunks of enormous trees, a long,
open clearing set in the middle of a West African looking forest.  The
blackness was so thick i felt like I could grab it and feel it,
although it didn’t seem encroaching.  The textured bark of the huge
baobab trees that surrounded me was exceedingly noticeable, and the
bark itself created an intricate pattern.  What was strange was that
while everything was so clear, there seemed to be a fuzzy haze over my
vision, the kind of pointillist, matte finish that pictures from 1980s
National Geographic magazines are printed in.
For some reason, I looked up, and what I saw was stunning.  The
creeping branches of the trees came together to form a peak, like two
people double hand high fiving one another.  The thick, woody branches
formed an A frame style ceiling, and instead of a dark night sky,
between the branches was painted the most beautiful, lifelike
rendition of the Sistine Chapel mural i can imagine.  Contrary to the
trees below, the paintings were amazingly crisp and pure, like i was
viewing them through a high definition screen on the sales floor at
Best Buy.  Cherubic, winged creatures adorned the perimeter, gazing
longingly down at me.  The centerpiece, as expected, was the “God
Creates Adam” section, depicting Adam and God’s fingertips touching,
captured in an epic, defining sort of splinter of time.  This strange
cathedral like structure held my attention for quite some time, and,
as I continued gazing upwards, my dream faded into darkness.

Inspiration!

Another great artist, who isn’t as modern as the previous David Choe is the great Egon Schiele. His work is incredible as he was the protege of the great Gustav Klimt. Anyone who has the slightest intrest in art should check both of these legends out.

Egon Schiele “Death and Woman”

Egon Schiele's "Death and the Woman"

Gustav Klimt “The Kiss”

Gustav Klimt "The Kiss"

Another great inspiracion.

“Danger Mouse & Sparklehorse”, the CD is called “Dark nigh of the soul” and it features songs by many different artists such as Wayne Coyne from the “Flaming Lips”.

I give it a 7 out of 10.
